I’m having a lot of fun with this series. I wasn’t planning on doing more than one, but I had such a good time designing the first one, that I thought I’d keep going and see where it progresses. I already have a few more in the works and I’m thinking that, much like my mask series, this is the beginning of a much larger project.

“The Corpse Tree” for UUWorld Magazine.

Late last year…I took a chance. I decided to include my gallery work in my illustration portfolio with the hopes of getting jobs with a similar mood and subject matter. I honestly felt that it was a long shot, so you can imagine my excitement when I got the call to paint a dying, human-like tree (riddled with holes caused by bark beetle infestation) for an article about the effects of climate change on our forests. It was a dream gig and an absolute joy to work on. A big thanks to Art Director Bob Delboy at UUWorld Magazine for the amazing assignment. Here’s to believing that your personal viewpoint can find a home in the mainstream.

Details of “Dark Lord” 9.75” x 15” graphite, ink, and gouache on paper…My own interpretation of the Dark Lord of the Sith. This painting will be featured in the upcoming Star Wars exhibition at Gallery Nucleus. The show opens Saturday, May 4th and has an amazing lineup of artists. I was a Star Wars FREAK as a kid, so I’m pretty bummed that I can’t make it to this one.
